Battling the Incumbent: The NPL Media Bias and Wisconsin Recall

by John on 05/17/2012

I am watching the Wisconsin Recall Race as closely as I can.  I have some friends who live there.

The latest controversy is the unemployment figures.  Embattled Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker disagrees with the figures from one state department, but he agrees with another department that makes his point.  Here’s the story.  It’s hard to say which department is more accurate.

Walker’s Democratic challenger is Tom Barrett.  Here’s how Barrett describes Walker.  Does it remind you of another tactic?:

Gov. Walker can trot out all the alternate data he wants, but the numbers are the numbers. By the statistics used by everyone else, including Gov. Walker himself up until just recently, Wisconsin lost 6,200 jobs last month under his failed leadership. Wisconsin has finished dead last in a number of job creating statistics during his tenure as governor. Perhaps if Scott Walker had spent more time focusing on jobs instead of dividing-and-conquering or jetting around the country as a right-wing rock star to the rich, Wisconsin wouldn’t be bleeding jobs.

Is it me or are the Democrats in Wisconsin using the same tactics the national Republicans are using against President Obama – calling him a celebrity?

The political parties share the same strategies.  They’re part of the same fraternity; the same league.

I will produce some videos for this site soon – explaining how to be an Informed Not Inflamed citizen.  One of the videos will examine media bias.  I will actually explain the different biases.  One of them is the NML Bias.   Here’s the script:

THE N-M-L BIAS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES.  THAT’S THE NATIONAL MEDIA LEAGUE – LIKE THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.  THE N-F-L HAS 32 TEAMS.  THEY COMPETE AGAINST EACH OTHER.  THEY GET US TO HATE THE OTHER 31-TEAMS TO SUPPORT OUR TEAM.  WE END UP GIVING A LOT OF MONEY AND ATTENTION.  IN THE END, CREATING THIS COMPETITION BRINGS MONEY TO ALL THE TEAMS.

DON’T GET ME WRONG.  IT WORKS WELL WITH PROFESSIONAL SPORTS AND EVEN WITHIN CERTAIN INDUSTRIES LIKE SOFT DRINKS – COKE NEEDS PEPSI AND VICE VERSA.

BUT AMONG MEDIA OUTLETS, THIS GINNED UP COMPETITION IS PLAYING WITH VITAL INFORMATION WE NEED AS A SOCIETY TO LIVE, WORK, AND BE SAFE.  IT’S ONE REASON YOU DON’T SEE DOCTORS DOING ADS SLAMMING ANOTHER DOCTOR.

THINK ABOUT WHERE THIS HURTS US AS A COUNTRY.

Notice how this pertains to political parties too.

I remember hearing a friend of mine speak to his kids.  “Don’t think I am not a step ahead of you.  I know what you’re thinking and planning.  I was a kid too.  And it wasn’t that long ago.”

He was right.  He is also a great Dad.

Why can’t we be like that with our politicians?
